Just finished watching the Yanks-Sox game. Should I have not been surprised that Schilling came in in the 9th with the game tied? He hasn't pitched in the majors for months and Francona puts him in to face the Yankee big bats in the 1st game of a big series. I know that nobody is tougher than Schilling but don't you give him his 1st relief appearance in a slightly easier situation? Personally, I'm glad he came in (OK, I admit it, I'm a Yankee fan) but I thought that Francona was asking for trouble. By the looks of it, Schilling is nowhere near being sound physically.

Schilling has been a starter for how long now? Sorry, he's not John Smoltz.
Anyone in their right minds would want him to take care of innings 1-8 and hit the shower for inning 9.
